1946: Initiated the Quit Kashmir movement
For this, he was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for three years in 1946 but was released after 16 months.
Prime Minister of J&K at that time: R.C.Kak
J.L.Nehru was arrested on 22nd June and kept at the Dak Bungalow in Domel, close to Muzaffarabad (PoK at present) for entering in J&K without "visa"
Nehru entered by Kohala bridge and was greeted by slogans "GO back" and later was arrested.
Nehru ji returned to Delhi following a summon from Gandhi ji. Later, R.C.Kak met the Indian National Congress leaders in July and Nehru was permitted to revisit Srinagar where he met Sheikh Abdullah in jail.
17th March1948: Sheikh Abdullah become P.M of J&K (2nd after independence; 1st being M.C. Mahajan)
8th August 1953: Government dismissed by Dr. Karan Singh and Sheikh Abdullah was jailed after this for 11 years on account of anti-national activities. Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad succeeded as Prime Minister of J&K.
Sheikh Abdullah also visited Pakistan in 1964 as a mediator between India and Pakistan
1975: Become the C.M of state for the first time. He was an MLC when he assumed Chief minister seat. It only become possible after Indira-Sheikh accord
1977: Again become C.M and remained C.M till his death on 8th September 1982 and was succeeded by his son Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
